- Abstract
The article studies the issue of perceived legitimacy, the thing placed in the center of contemporary political sociology, researching the de-ideologization of the Russian political process in the period from 1991 to 2012. Two aspects determine the theoretical framework of the study. The first is the difference between positional and valence issues in election campaign strategies. The second is David Easton’s typology of legitimacy, who singles out ideological, structural and personal legitimacy. The typology is considered from the point of view of perceptional approach to legitimacy. The empirical basis of the study is the program documents of Russian parties, as well as the concepts and slogans of election campaigns. The material is analyzed and evaluated on the presence of positional and valence issues embodied in taglines with the implementation of Natural Language Processing techniques. We conclude that in the late 1990s Russia experienced a crisis of ideological legitimacy, which in the 2000s was replaced by structural one. If in the early 1990s the ideological values were the basis for Russian politics, then in the 2000s it was changed by the “structure”, personifying the “vertical power” headed by the president
